With the Australian government having made a commitment to invest in the country’s largest ever infrastructure program, both rural and metropolitan areas are set to boost their competitiveness and economic growth.
Western Australia
WA is one of the areas set to benefit considerably from this investment to improve its infrastructure. The Perth Gateway WA Project will see $676 million invested to complete it, as well as $615 million towards the NorthLink WA for the Perth Darwin Highway.
The Great Northern Highway (Muchea – Wubin) has started being constructed for a cost of $307.8 million, along with the $174 million North West Coastal Highway (Minilya – Barradale). The upgrade of the $140.6 million Tonkin Highway has also now entered the planning stages and to be constructed at a later stage.
The Perth Freight Link ($1.6 billion) build is being partially funded through WA’s first heavy vehicle road user charge. This project is expected to go out for tender during 2015.
